Who was wearing what evening gowns & couture formal designs at the Emmy’s as seen by Fashion Dress Designer, Darius Cordell.03/09/10
This is one of my favorites times of the year. The celebrities hit the red carpet when The Emmys are handed out to those who get the most votes for their work in TV. That’s all fine and good but… who and what were they wearing? I liked most of the evening wear dresses on the red carpet . But some of them were just a hot mess .
To set out with Jane Lynch. When saw her in their dress on E’s pre-show I though eeawh. But later it started to grow on me . The color was really nice with her fair skin. I though her hair could have been a bit more crisp. But let’s face it; she is not what some would call a lip stick lesbian. I could have done with out that very visible seam line at the top of her hip. But over all I thought the designer gown was really nice .
Now to one of the most fabulous looks of the night – Kim Kardashian. OMG! Could she have looked any better? The hair, the make up, the jewelry, the shoes and then that evening gown. Wow! And if I heard it right that was her back up choice. Can you imagine what her main formal dress choice was going to be?
Then there is Lea Michelle of Glee. If her hair style was a bit more tamed ….she could have been in the running for best dressedat the Emmy’s. That Oscar de la Renta formal gown was to die for . The navy blue color was very elegant and mature I thought for her age but still it was very glamorous. it reminded me of old school hollywood . I loved it. But that make up and hair (to me) mess up the entire look . For formal dresses that are so tadah… a formal up do might have been more appropriate. And she probably would not have had to fool with it and move it around as much as she did with her hair being down.
One of my other favorite couture evening dresses from last nights Emmy red carpet was Brook Burke. Yes, it had a mild pageant dress flare to it but the overall image was incredible. Her hair down worked for that coloring and gown. That white chiffon evening gown was just breath taking. The thigh high split was over the top but was also necessary in that styling of gown for that occasion. It made her appear to look taller. There was no fancywork or over done design. It was just a simply white dress for a gorgeous woman. I liked it.
Tina Fey’s choice for an elegant evening wear gown was fairlymatronly but still extremely elegant. Wearing Oscar de la Renta as well, it was a stunning black beaded overlay gown. The cut and fit were impeccable. The styling of hair and jewelry also worked well with her designer gown. It was a smart but also mature choice.
One of my other favorites was Claire Danes. Again, I know this looked like some other pageant dresses that you may see on a national level. Since that is where Darius Cordell Inc began it is hard for us to not fully apprecaite that look of a gown. But the way Clare wore it with her blonde hair down and the coloring of the beading just looked fabulous. It looked kind of coral & peachy – if not tan but whatever it was it was very lovely. The beading appeared to have sequin, pearls and bugle beads but could never get tight enough on it to tell. It was such a simply cut and uncomplicated beading design that it all got down to color and fit. And that dress was definitely fitted to a tee. It was one of the more simpler designs but it was still a lovely picture.
Now for a few of the more horrible formal gowns that were there last night. I love designer dresses with large flowing ball gown skirts . They can be so elegant and rich looking. But I have to say that blue mess that January Jones was wearing did not cut it for me. It was so unattractive. It is more or less like she was trying so hard to be different that she over missed the mark by a long shot. Sometimes being different is not always the best thing. And in this case it was not at all. It looked like a drag queen costume for a Friday night show. I was not happy with this piece of fashion at all . I did not find anyting elegant, sophisticated or glamorous about it at all. It looked more like a costume than an evening gown. I hate to say this but that is what I felt.
Another fashion mistake to me was Julianna Margulies. What in the hell? It was some fully beaded dress with a very odd looking beading pattern . Her hair looked like she had just rolled out of bed. And to top it off when they were interviewing her it was like she could have cared less about being there. Possibly because she knew she had a bad dress on. Anyway, none of it was working for me.
And last but not least, Kara Sedgwick. I tried to like it. I really did. But man, it looked like a real heavy blanket that was just draped over her. You know that gown was fitted to her but for some reason with all that textile it just looked like it was just dangling on her. It was too long, too wide, too heavy and just not the most flattering formal dress. Again, I wanted to like it because of the red burgundy color and the bust line but that ball gown skirt in what appeared to be an extremely heavy piece of fabric just ruined it for me. And that speech….this is “too low”, this is “too low”. Girl you are beating me.
Anyway, there were a few others that I liked well enough and some others that just let me hanging. But I can only sit at this computer so long. So those are the picks from Cordell Couture. Can’t wait to see what Joan Rivers has to say about all _ this. I am anxious to see if her picks were in line with mine .
